Vigilant Sentry 2.2.0 released
Providence, RI (Vigilant) May 27, 2010 -- Vigilant Software released Sentry version 2.2, the latest and most powerful version of its static code analysis tools for C and C++. This release improves Sentry's analysis engine, adds new features for improved productivity, and adds support for the latest open source C/C++ compiler, GCC 4.5.
Sentry's analysis engine now finds more defects thanks to two new scanners, which were introduced to find new kinds of bugs. The new scanners identify security and stability problems, such as use of improperly initialized data, that can cause programs to crash or behave unpredictably.
This new version includes some usability improvements to increase productivity when Sentry is used as part of an automated test suite. Users can now compare a run of the analyzer to a previous run and quickly identify the changes between them - newly-introduced defects or defects that have been fixed. This allows users to quickly track down and fix defects as soon as they appear.
As well, Sentry 2.2 improves integration with Linux systems in general and the GNU compiler in particular. Sentry smoothly integrates with existing build systems on Linux, even in complex distributed systems. Support for C/C++ language extensions added by GCC 4.5 has been included as well.
Static code analysis is an increasingly popular method of identifying software defects in programs before they impact users in the field. Vigilant Sentry is a code analysis tool that automatically identifies dozens of defects in C or C++ programs, improving safety and security in an increasingly software-driven world.
